Orange County Business and Entrepreneurship Regional Director Cathleen Greiner and Los Angeles Business and Entrepreneurship Regional Director Judy Fox are excited to announce two virtual speaker series that will give students and faculty the tools they need to think like an entrepreneur no matter what curveballs might come their way.
The “Summit Series of Innovation: Embracing Turbulence 2021” will focus on building the skills needed to navigate uncertainty in business — contingency planning, pivots, finding the right investors, assessing your environment, and more. It is a collaboration between the Orange County and Los Angeles Regional Directors and EXP – The Opportunity Engine.
The series began March 19 with a presentation from David M. Ochi, Executive Director of the Innovation Incubator at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Presentations will continue one Friday per month from April through October from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The “Employability & the Entrepreneurship Mindset Speaker Series” is a collaboration between the Business and Entrepreneurship sector, Los Angeles Community College, and Kolena Corporation. Each event will focus on a different topic relating to the future of work, including how to become an expert in your field and how to get noticed by the right people.
It began March 18 with a presentation from Ramon Newman, CEO of New Mavericks, on “Resilient Leadership: Being in the Eye of the Storm in Times of Turbulence.” Presentations will continue on the third Thursday of the month through November.
Greiner said these series and other virtual events her team has organized over the past year have led to positive outcomes for the region’s students.
“The outcome has been improved skills, connections to employers and startups, and dual enrollment and pathway emphasis,” Greiner said. “We keep outcomes metrics and track badging, active participation, student feedback, and sustainable employer engagement.”
